April 2009
How are your winter projects going? Did you get some of those aprons made? I hope so! Aprons are a great starter sewing project. They aren’t too big, usually there is some yardage in your stash that will do and they generally go together quickly.
Here on the farm, the babies are being born……the lambs seem bigger everyday. Watching them is better than TV. One minute they are still and sniffing the air, the next off they go racing around and jumping over each other. So, so curious…..everything is worthy of a sniff. They even run under the donkey…..and he doesn’t seem to mind. I think he actually enjoys the little ones because he sure puts up with alot from them. One was pulling on his tail with her mouth just yesterday and he just stood there.
The goats; LunaBell, Cookie and Gertie are all due at the end of April and into May. I think I’ll sleep in the barn when it gets time, makes me nervous waiting for the babies. Once they are here, dried off and eating good, I can relax. Then it’s onto milking and making cheese. Making cheese is alot like making bread, very good therapy.
Paisleywise, I’m in the process of learning a software program that will speed up drafting new patterns. But it is like learning a new language……. there are 2 new patterns, well kind of 3, that are begging to be done. I hope it helps.
Another thing I am going to do this spring, is make a dress form. I refuse to pay the money for one of those new ones…….just too cheap I guess. But I found a set of instructions from 1926, that shows how to make one out of gummed paper. If nothing else it will be good for a bunch of laughs. You start out in a Tshirt and a helper, and start glueing the strips around your body. Your laughing already. And then when your "armor" is dry ( I hope it doesn’t take too long) you cut through the front and back, peel it off. Then it is gummed back together along your cut lines and wah lah…….a dress form. If I change size, I can always use it for a firestarter in the woodstove. Hah.
Also Paisleywise……my "do everything" husband is remodeling my workroom. And he’s adding pattern storage space. My current workroom has no heat, no insulation…..and cement floors. It works, but sewing with gloves is a stretch. I can hardly wait. He is an electrician and his job is kind of slow at the moment……. so to my great delight, I get a real workroom…….with a heater. Joy!
Better go, I wish I could visit with you all. Everytime I talk with one of you, I know I’m very blessed to be in the sewing world, you’re very sweet. Sewers and quilters are the best.
The Lord bless you and keep you,
Katie
