Hot, hot, hot……
Hi Ladies……
yes indeed, it is summer. Makes the mornings rather fast paced, trying to get the outside things done before the heat takes over. Today will reach close to 100 degrees and that is plain ole miserable in this corner of the burg. I think I’ll be giving the goats a soak to help keep them cool.
Been doing quite abit of gardening….but not enough to have a picture that I’m proud of…..if you get my drift. Now that the ducks have quit pulling up the corn plants….I’m a little more hopeful for some corn on the cob. But for the freezer corn….will have to go to the market and buy. The little stink weeds ate more than their share.
I have a great pantry (not attached to the house) out in the garage…..and it had acquired a couple of rats. Drove me crazy. Tried several types of traps…..finally got one with my foot. Never underestimate an angry housewife. Well, my husband had had enough. He ripped the whole thing out….and lined it with sheet metal. The shelves are being built…painted…..and ladies, it is just lovely. The old pantry was old dark wood and yucky cement floor….now it’s all SILVER. We keep joking about now having to wrap our heads in foil when the aliens come now. We will just go into the pantry to save our brains……..you know I’m kidding, right?
Tomorrow in my little town of Vernonia…..there is an "Art Camp"……now go visual here for a second. In your minds eye, picture an average patternmaker……teaching 12 kids (ages 7-19) how to run a machine, cut out a pattern, sew straight….and make an apron. And there are two groups back to back. One hour for each group……I am in so much trouble. I made up the simplest pattern……but it will be a miracle if they come out. Will bring my camera…….the lady on the ground holding an icepack on her head will be me.
Onward Ladies…….your projects are calling…….
Blessings to you all,
Katie

Just found this web site and placed my first order for an apron pattern. Can’t wait to get it. I found a terrific vintage apron in a thrift shop and wanted to make one myself. The one I bought has several darts and I really don’t know how to copy each piece that has an altered shape with darts. Lucky for me I don’t have to. I will use one of Katie’s.
I too taught an art camp a few times. I know exactly what your up against. The project seems simple to start out and then you try to teach it. Ha! Nothing goes as planned. By the time all the kinks are worked out, the camp is over. Ugh!
But the kids are exposed to something new and if nothing else, they gain an appreciation for the effort that goes into a project like you are teaching. So true about many things in life. Yes?
This is a sweet website that I will bookmark and check back from time to time. Thank you Katie. I’ll let you know how my first apron comes out.
TTFN and God Bless.
Bonnie
Thanks Bonnie for the encouragement….. It was very interesting to see the different sewing skills and the results. I did a pattern that had to be turned inside out…so that straight seams didn’t matter as much. And that was a VERY GOOD IDEA. And the fellas surprized me the most, they did great. Will keep my simple pattern for future “events”.
