Battle Beanies

This is the Battle Beanie for our soldiers in Iraq. This pattern is one size fits all and I don't care who uses it, just keep those kids warm.

If you think this is too unfinished...think disposable, think they won't take them off even to sleep. The fleece won't unravel and our soldiers will be a bit warmer. Stay with black fleece unless they tell you that dark brown or camo is okay. I hope you'll do a whole bunch of them!!!!

I really appreciate you taking up the job of helping make their days a bit easier.

You can send the beanies to the following address if you would like, or send it to someone you know. Linda will take all you can send.

1. Purchase or dig in your stash for black polar fleece. The first fleece I used was very expensive and super soft...but it wasn't the best choice. The cheaper was firmer and worked better. Be sure and put the stretchy direction according to the pattern arrow. The pictures show me sewing the beanies with white thread, but you understand that black is the better choice...right?!!!!!

2. I don't separate my wedges, I leave them in pairs. Use a wide zig-zag stitch on the long side. Zig-zag right on the edge so that it also binds the cut edge. If making a large amount of these, chain stitch like in quilting, (going from one seam to the next without breaking your thread). You will need to backstitch at the beginning and at the end of every seam. Sew 2 wedges together on one long edge...go to next set..go to next set...

3. Cut 2 sets from the chain and open them up...line up the center top...and lower flat edge. Sew long seam that will join the 2 wedge sets together. It's done.
