  2. Cut out 6 petals and 2 of the bottom rounds.

  3. Choose an overcast type decorative stitch. Stitch up 3 pairs of petals. Be sure to back stitch at both ends.

  4. Now finish putting the petals together to make a tomato shape..... with an open bottom.

  5. Don't be to concerned about the top and how nice it meets together, because the button and leaves will cover any mismatching.

  6. Now change your stitch to straight stitching and resew all those seams 1/4" over from your decorative stitch. This makes the petals. Try to make this seam a little wider at the curve and then graduate it back to almost nothing at the tip of each pie piece. When doing this step, at the top of the pie piece, just sew a couple of "empty" stitches and go across to the next pie wedge and continue sewing. Remember the button will make it all look great!!

  7. Pin the wedges to the bottom rounds. Keep the rounds together for more body. The bottoms are a smidge bigger than the top....and it's supposed to be that way. Put a little of the extra between each pin all the way around. This eases in when it's sewn.

  8. Back to your decorative stitch and sew 2/3 of the way around the base. Flip all the "petals" the same direction.

  9. Remove from machine and stuff with batting scraps. Stuff quite full.

  10. When almost full, put in 3-4 drops of candle scent or soap scent. But not too much......subtle is the key. I digress at this point and want to put a funny picture in your mind.....think 15 Jr. Hi. girls making pincushions, adding scent as they would please, add a closed hot school room....talk about headache. The whole school was "frangrant". Do you know what you get when you mix rose, lavendar, sweetpea, ...........

  11. Okay back to the pincushion. After the scent, add a little more stuffing and pin closed. Finish sewing around the bottom.

  12. Take a long thread, at least 36". Fold in half and thread both cut ends through a long needle. Create a knot of the cut ends and the looped end. By the way, this saves time when sewing on buttons for clothes too!

  13. Find the middle of the bottom and come up out at the top of the cushion. Sew through the leaf in the middle and add the top button. Go back down through cushion and cinch up. Stop and look at cushion, are the leaves the right size? is the button too big or small. It's easy to fix at this point, just cut the knot on the bottom and do over.

  14. Once it's all okay, go up and down in your cushion 3 or 4 times,be sure to add the little button on the bottom. Knot off.

  15. Finger press the petals all in one direction. It's all done.....and cute too!!
