Mama’s Sweet and Saltines

40 soda crackers

1 c. butter (not margarine)

1 c. brown sugar

8 oz. semisweet choc. chips

Heat oven to 425º

Line rimmed baking sheet with foil, lay out crackers in a single layer.

In sauce pan, melt butter, brown sugar.  Bring to boil, boil for 5 minutes.  Carefully pour over crackers, trying to get it even.

Put in oven, bake for 5 minutes or til just bubbly.

Remove from oven, sprinkle choc. chips over caramel.  Let them get soft, then spread over crackers with knife.

Put in freezer for 20 minutes.  Break into pieces and store in airtight container.

This came from a magazine article about Trisha Yearwood and her mom.  I tried them mostly because I just couldn’t see how the soda crackers could work.  What a hoot to watch grown women all but lick the bowl for the last chunk of goodie at a BBQ we had.
